🥁🎺🎷🎷🎤🇲🇶 The Djoubap’s are one of Martinique’s historic bands. Led by trumpeter Jean Beneto, the band was active in the late 60s and first half of the 70s. With their two trumpets and two saxophones, the Djoubap’s instantly bring a deeply Latin heat to all their arrangements. The repertoire blends compas, tumbélé, biguine and rumba, on a mix of compositions by the band (La Vie Difficile, by Beneto) and covers by Nemours Jean-Baptiste – the pioneer of direct compas, or Willie Colon, like the Panameña that closes the album. Zaia Copa also contains a gem, quickly spotted from Puerto Rico to Cuba: the interpretation of Man Dingore, at the top of the guaguanco, and an instant hit. An album with a cult following!
