🎤🌍🕺🏽🎶🔌 Ivorian singer Dobet Gnahoré, daughter of master percussionist Boni Gnahoré, began her career in her homeland, before being taken under the wing of Belgian label Contre-Jour, run by Michel de Bock, with whom she released four albums between 2004 and 2014. We met her in 2010 in Saint Lucia, where she had been invited to the Jazz in the South festival by Yves Renard and Len Leonce. She made a lasting impression on us, with both her singing and her energetic dancing, and logically brought the audience to its feet on the beach at Laborie. In 2018, a slight change of direction saw her move to Café de la Danse and release Miziki, under the slightly more electro production of Nicolas Repac (who produced Mamani Keita’s Gagner l’Argent Français). Miziki, still very African, is a more personal album from Dobet Gnahoré, where the downtempo, often haunting, has pride of place, but where the dance also bursts out where you least expect it. Alongside him is Colin Laroche from Féline, a regular since the Ano Neko years over twenty years ago. Lansine Kouyaté plays the balafon, and Damian Nueva is on double bass, assisted by Patrick Goraguer on drums.
