🎶🎤💥🌍👏 Moustique is probably Zao‘s best-known track to date, perhaps on a par with Ancien Combattant. Firstly, because between rumba and soukous, it is a hit on the dancefloor, from Brazzaville to Paris, with electronic drums, generous brass and layers of synthesizers. And then there’s the fact that Zao’s earthy lyrics denounce the inequalities and injustices of society in every verse and in a few well-chosen words. In 1988, this was Zao’s third album, and the peak of his fame, following Ancien Combattant and Corbillard. But there’s more to it than that. Zao tackles other important subjects here, always with his inimitable verve, from family relationships (Mon Fils) to apartheid and madness. Finally, Football illustrates, with a great deal of humour, the enthusiasm of African fans for this sport that unleashes so many passions. Zao once again relies on loyal musicians who have been with him since the beginning, including BarnabĂ© Matsiona, Rikky Simeon, Pie Aubin Mabika and Samuel Pembele. Just over ten years later, the track Moustique was remixed under the name Mobebissi by the rapper Mystick (of course!), in the vein of the Bisso Na Bisso albums just released at the time.
