Kréolia – Rodolphe Lauretta, 2021

,

A bit of a backlog of reviews… which I’m trying to catch up on. So here’s Kréolia, the latest opus from Rodolphe Lauretta who returns to us, four years after Raw. The Martinique saxophonist celebrates a jazz fusion with Caribbean accents, touching on funk and electro, following in the footsteps of Roy Hargrove and his RH Factor. A number of guests, including Roger Raspail and Jî Drû, rap (MED), soul (Dwight Trible) and aerial vocals (Ruppert Pupkin, Geneviève Atardi), and eleven original compositions, before a cover of Alain Jean-Marie’s Haiti, as a tribute and a wink.
