Munyungo – Darryl ‘Munyungo’ Jackson, 1991

,

đŸ„đŸŒđŸŽ”đŸŒŽđŸŽ¶ Darryl ‘Munyungo’ Jackson has been one of the most sought-after percussionists since the late 80s (by which time his career had already been underway for a decade). Miles Davis, Marcus Miller, The Zawinul Syndicate, Herbie Hancock, Sting, Stevie Wonder, Dianne Reeves… and an unquenchable thirst for learning, which has taken him all over the world to discover peoples through their rhythms. So in 1991, the album soberly entitled Munyungo took us on a journey with him. He is accompanied by six other percussionists – including Lenny Castro and Bill Summers – and a number of other talents including bassist Sekou Bunch, Robert Greenidge on steel pans and Todd Cochran on keyboards. Munyungo takes us to Latin America (Columbiana, Oye Samba), Trinidad (So Happy), Africa (Trees, Shango Basoko), and takes a diversion ‘On Green Dolphin Street’, in a flurry of rhythms and percussion that tell extraordinary stories.
