Saint-Cro – Maïka Munam, 1988

,

Guitarist and arranger Maïka Munan built a bridge between the Congo and the Caribbean with Saint-Cro in 1988. Winner of the RFI discovery prize in 1984, he debuted with Tabu Ley Rochereau, played with Papa Wemba, Koffi Olomidé and Youssou n’Dour. On Saint-Cro, he is joined by the Guadeloupean singer Xénia Caraïbe and the incomparable Sam Mangwana. The beats are electronic, but that doesn’t stop the production of four tracks that are definitely made for the dancefloor, with their mix of zouk, rumba and soukous.
