🇨🇲🎸🌴🥁🎶 Cameroonian poly-instrumentalist Douglas Mbida has had a long career both before and alongside his participation in Kassav’ – which has clearly brought him deserved international notoriety. Douglas Mbida was born in Ekom, and even if you don’t know Cameroon, you’ve already seen those fantastic jungle waterfalls where the famous Greystoke was filmed. After his student group, Les Ducs de Bafoussam, Mbida moved to Douala and played with Eboa Lotin, Marthe Zambo, Ekambi Brillant and Jo Tongo. He left for Paris in 1976, and soon met Jacob Desvarieux, long before Kassav’. Together, they formed several groups (Ozila, Zulu Gang), before Jacob helped him release his own records. Mot Mfôb is the second, released in 1981, just as he was joining Kassav’. It features Christophe Zadire, Philippe Drai, Marilou and Georges Séba. With Mot Mfôb, recorded at the legendary Studio Johanna, Mbida moves from makossa to assiko to bikutsi, with the Afro-disco accents that were the hit of the day. Douglas Mbida has continued his prestigious collaborations with artists such as Akendengue, Khadja Nin, Angélique Kidjo and many others…
