Kannaval – Sakiyo, 1990

,

🎶🎤🎸🥁🎷 Two little turns, and then you’re gone. In 1990, Kannaval was Sakiyo’s second and last album, two years after Tracé. The West Indian all-star applied the recipe that had worked for his first album. A hyper-energetic zouk, with instant hits (Ou Pé Lanmou), on arrangements touching on jazz funk, rap, rock (Kristal Lan Mo), Africa (An Ba Soley) and of course drawing on tradition with Kannaval, the title track. Created on Michel Alibo’s initiative – and on commission – Sakiyo consolidates its aura with this opus, where it is once again supported by Mario Canonge, Tony Chasseur and Jean-Paul Pognon. They are joined by the late Serge Ponsar, Jean-Philippe Fanfant on drums, Yves Ndjock and reference brass players Allen Hoist, Glenn Ferris and Philippe Slominsky. The agendas and careers of all these talents prevented Sakiyo from continuing the adventure, although they have since sporadically appeared on stage.
