🎶🎷🌴🎸🥁 Less famous certainly than their cousins from Guadeloupe, the Vikings de Martinique, sometimes also called Vikings 972, nevertheless produced a small handful of albums during the 1970s. Djouk nestles in the middle of this discography, probably around 1976. The Vikings oscillate between the cadence-lypso of Dominica and the Haitian compas, led by the Coldold brothers, Joseph on guitar and Georges on saxophone, and Alain Geneviève, who divides his time between vocals and trombone. Marie-Jo Prajet on congas, who will be working with Henri Guédon for a long time, and Jean-Claude Léandre, who will be taking part in numerous recordings, both Caribbean and African. Henri Pigniat’s organ adds the final touch of “Exile One sound” to the band’s repertoire.
