The famous Cuban singer was noticed at an early age as a reference for son, danzón, and guaracha. He played with Benny Moré, Mongo Santamaria and Compay Segundo. He also sang guaguancó with Septeto Nacional. Noted for his undeniable gift for this traditional form of rumba, he eventually formed the Conjunto Guaguancó, with whom he recorded this repertoire of traditional classics in 1975.
