Spécial Recueil-Souvenir (Mémoire De Aboubacar Demba Camara) – Bembeya Jazz National, 1974

,

🎺🥁🪘🎤🇬🇳 In 1973, the tragic death of Aboubacar Demba Camara in the cab on his way back from the airport in Dakar was a major blow to Bembeya Jazz National. The historic Guinean band, formed in 1961, lost its emblematic singer, who had notably influenced Salif Keita and Bamako’s Super Rail Band. So it was only natural, the following year, to release this tribute album – now presented on cassette – featuring some of his most popular songs. It features the Mandingo afro-folk that made the band so successful, and which twice won the Biennale des Arts medal, earning it the title of “National”. And Bembeya Jazz, whose sound and personnel have obviously evolved, is still going strong today.
