Eugène Mona, the “standing Negro”, is one of the historic figures of the Antilles on a par with Frantz Fanon and Edouard Glissant. His song Bwa Brilé brought him success as early as 1973, reviving the tradition of the Bèlè drum and the Mornes flute – following in the footsteps of Max Cilla. With Ti Bouchon, released in 1975, he released another must-have album. For the record, Iguane Xtet drew inspiration from the track Poté Bambou to write Mo Mona on his debut album in 2004.
